As the Presidential race heats up and starts to near exactly one year until a new President will be elected, there is a lot of issues each President is facing. No President seems to live in a love, hate relationship more than Donald Trump. Donald Trump may be leading the Republican field, but it is not without much controversy. Last weekend many people were protesting at the studio where the famous Saturday Night Live is held. They were enraged that Donald Trump was cohosting the show. They did not want a racist person being in charge of the show,
Donald Trump has brought with him a lot of experience and fire behind the idea of nationalism. However, he is not doing it in the right way. There are over 11.3 MILLION undocumented people living and working in America. Without them, much of what America stands for and produces would not be possible. This idea that Donald Trump gives saying we should 'build a wall' to keep out Mexicans is not only racist but unethical. This country is based off of the idea of immigration and acceptance. How can Donald Trump want to make America great again without keeping these two key factors of our country alive?
So here is the question...Should we accept Donald Trump's 'wall' idea, or be accepting as a country? Does it make sense to keep America exclusive? How can people support these ideas?
Personally, I believe Donald Trump is off base with his intentions regarding immigration. The country was formed around the immigration of European settlers and later people from all over the world. The main idea of closing off America limits the American way of life. This country has always been a place for cultures to mix. The limiting of who is allowed in is racial discrimination. There are illegal immigrants from all over the world, not only from Latin America. America is an ever growing country but if Trump wants to keep our borders tight it should be to all demographics not just people of Hispanic descent.
ReplyDeleteI often find myself wondering how anyone is actually taking Trump seriously as a presidential candidate. I believe most of his appeal is that he says what is on his mind and he is entertaining, especially to people who aren't really interested in politics. I know, at the very least, that my parents watched the Republican debates for the first time in a long time, specifically to see what Trump would say. Despite them finding him funny, however, they would never actually vote for him. I hope a lot of other people feel this way too. Listening to Trump talk about the "wall" is all it really takes to understand that it is a ridiculous idea. Trump describes it as "a Trump wall, a real wall" with a "big beautiful nice door". He wants to remove 11.3 million undocumented immigrants out of the country, which would cost hundreds of billions of dollars that could go towards something else. In the recent debate, Trump said that "we have no choice" but to send immigrants back to their native countries. I disagree. I find that this statement, like many things Trump says, not only nonsensical, but also lacking in American spirit.
ReplyDeleteI honestly wish I was involved in politics as much as everyone else but from what I've heard about him, he's nowhere near worthy of running a country. The guy clearly just says random things to get attention and 90% of the time they don't even make sense; it's so sad. This whole idea of getting rid of immigrants is just absurd. There's so much we lose if we got rid of immigrants like the diverse culture as well as all the hard working workers. He can't make America great again if he gets rid of immigrants completely out of the picture. Not accepting immigrants sort of reminds me of North Korea where they don't let anyone leave or enter the country. It's just flat out wrong to do that.
ReplyDeleteAfter listening to all of the debates and paying attention to what Donald Trump is saying, I ask myself if the people of the United States are taking his ideas seriously? His ideas have a good base, but I am not sure how they will go over if they were actually put in to play. I strongly agree with Trump when he says that we need to get the 11.3 million undocumented Americans out of our country. Our country could use the huge sum of money that these people are costing us. I do not think that building the "Trump Wall" is the best way to get these people out, but something needs to be done. I understand that America should be open and accepting to new people but there has to be a way to limit these people in our country.
ReplyDeleteI do not accept Donald Trump's "Build A Wall" idea for a few simple reasons. Mainly because he wants Mexico to build the wall when Mexico has probably zero willingness to build it and that argument would just ruin relations with our southern neighbor. Secondly he wants to take out the backbone of the current American economy which if he did would collapse America and it would be a long long time before it would be great again. Also, in regards to his wanting to make America exclusive doesn't make sense because of how unAmerican that is. America has always accepted people from all over the world, the Statue of Liberty is a symbol of that so saying we'll be exclusive doesn't go along with the true ideals of a great America. People support these ideas because they seem like simple answers to a complicated question and they themselves don't understand the ramifications to those decisions he could make.

ReplyDeleteI think this is a bit one sided because there is so much more to the immigration debate that many left-wing individuals never talk about. Donald Trump is a very radical and blunt candidate, no one can disagree with that. Many of the things he says are not the best ideas, and he seems to take things a little too far. But, we know immigrants are stimulating our economy, but they are also hurting it. As much as many refuse to believe, they are simply taking away jobs. They are taking away jobs from the unemployed. Many will say that these Americans do not want to take these jobs because the salary is so low. The reason Americans aren;t taking these jobs is because of the benefits they get from being unemployed. The unemployed reap so many benefits, including a check, healthcare and food stamps. Its financially smarter for them to stay at home rather than go out and get those high paying jobs. If we limited the amount of time the unemployed had to go get a job, they would HAVE to take those low paying jobs. Immigration is so complicated and it's not as easy to solve as many think it is. It's time we stop making fun of Donald Trump and actually start listening to a couple of ideas the republicans have. The only way to solve our nation's issues is to understand the two sides of it.
ReplyDeleteGoing off the topic of politics and presidential race for a moment and talking about walls. The Great Wall of China was built to keep invaders out, but the more important thing is how well did it serve its purpose? Apparently not, according to the History.com staff, “Though the Great Wall never effectively prevented invaders from entering China, it came to function more as a psychological barrier between Chinese civilization and the world, and remains a powerful symbol of the country’s enduring strength”(1). If Mr. Trump’s reasoning is similar to the purpose of the Great Wall of China, and history does tend to repeat itself, will the outcome be the same? Would the physical wall just be a physical representation of our psychological barrier? Or will the physical wall serve its intended purpose?
ReplyDeleteAmerica is known as the melting pot, I personally do not believe there is such thing as a true ‘American’. Our country was founded by immigrants from Great Britain that were seeking freedom. Now America is made up of a variety of different ethnicities, how would we keep one race exclusive and exclude another with logical reasoning? I do understand trying to prevent undocumented immigrants from coming and and out of our country, but building a wall does not seem to be an effective solution.
